Porsche 911 Dakar: A Rugged Off-Roader With All-Wheel Drive

12 January 2023

The Off-Roading Porsche 911 Dakar

The Porsche 911 is known for its sleek design, powerful engine, and exceptional handling on the road. But now, Porsche has taken the 911 to a whole new level with the introduction of the 911 Dakar. This limited-edition model combines the best of the classic 911 with advanced off-road capabilities, creating a truly unique and rugged driving experience. The starting price for the 911 Dakar is £173,000.00. But, we are sure the price will start to add up once you are impressed by the optional extras like we were!

Exterior Design

One of the most striking features of the 911 Dakar is its exterior design. The body of the car is very similar to the make of the 911 GT3, it is made from lightweight carbon fibre, which not only gives it an aggressive, sporty look but also helps to improve the car’s overall performance. The rear spoiler is also CFRP.  The car also features a unique colour scheme, with the impressionable Rallye Design Package. This colour combination makes the 911 Dakar stand out on the road and is sure to turn heads, as it looks like a retro track car. There are also standard exterior colours such as White, Black, Ice Grey, and Shark Blue. But, a colour that really stands out to us is the Shade Green Metallic. A beautiful sage green that makes the car shine.

A lovely extra that enhances the off-roading aesthetic of the 911 Dakar is the roof rack. This can hold up to 40kg and has headlights!

Performance

Under the hood, the 911 Dakar is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine that produces 450 horsepower. This powerful engine is paired with an advanced all-wheel drive system, which allows for excellent traction and handling on rough terrain. The car also features a seven-speed manual transmission, which allows for smooth and precise gear changes. With this combination of power and handling, the 911 Dakar can go from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 149 mph.

One of the most impressive features of the 911 Dakar is its advanced suspension system. The car features an active suspension system, which automatically adjusts the suspension to suit the driving conditions. This sports suspension allows the car to be 50mm higher than the standard 911, and an even further 30mm at the front and rear is space gets too tight under the stainless steel guard whilst on the roads. This suspension happens when either stationary or driving up to speeds of 150mph. This means that the car will always provide the optimal balance between comfort and performance, whether you’re on the road or off-road. The 911 Dakar also features Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus system, which helps to improve the car’s handling by distributing power to the wheels that need it most.

The Sports Chrono Package for the 911 Dakar includes something incredibly impressive. There are two performance settings in this package, the first being Rallye mode for gravel roads, muddy tracks, and wet grass; and offroad mode for tacking sand dunes and rocky passages. What we are excited about though is the Rallye Launch Control, this is for a rally stage start on loose ground, and with 450 horsepower, we know that this will get your adrenaline pumping from the G-Force.

Interior and Technology

The 911 Dakar is also equipped with a host of advanced technology features. The car features Porsche’s Communication Management system, which allows you to connect your smartphone to the car’s infotainment system. This means you can access your music, navigate with maps, and even make calls hands-free. The car also features a rearview camera and a 360-surround view camera which makes it easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces.

The cockpit of the car looks like your typical GT interior. The GT sports steering wheel is covered in non-slip Race-Tex material, accompanied by shift paddles and a drive-mode selector.

The car also offers a Rallye Sport package, which offers you enhanced protection for driving offroad and on the track. This comes with two six-point seatbelts and a Black powder-coated steel roll bar that is bolted to the bodyshell behind the front seats. With such a powerful engine comes quite a risk, so Porsche has kindly included an easily accessible fire extinguisher on the passenger side. There are no rear seats in this car, it has been stripped back to its rallying roots. The removal of the rear seats saves weight, space, and speed.

In terms of safety, the 911 Dakar is equipped with a host of advanced features. The car features Porsche’s Traction Control system, which helps to improve the car’s handling in adverse weather conditions.

Overall, the Porsche 911 Dakar is a truly exceptional off-roading sports car. It combines classic 911 design elements with advanced off-road capabilities and all-wheel drive to create a unique and rugged driving experience. The car’s lightweight carbon fibre body, powerful engine, advanced suspension system, and advanced technology features all work together to create a car that is both beautiful and capable. If you’re looking for a sports car that can handle any terrain and offers the perfect blend of classic design and modern technology, the 911 Dakar is definitely worth considering.
